With its outstanding weather conditions and privileged location, the Costa del Sol each year plays host to a countless number of sports events.
Golf inevitably, stands out, with large numbers of courses situated all over the Costa del Sol. Among them, special mention goes to the renowned Mijas Golf for its proximity to Myramar Fuengirola.
Internationally prestigious and considered as Spain’s premier course, Valderrama (San Roque) is home to the Volvo Masters of Andalucía and the setting for the 2002 Ryder Cup.
Golf aside, water sports also enjoy great popularity. The Costa winds facilitate such sports as sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing which attract spiralling numbers of followers each year.
Many beaches also offer boats for hire, perfect for water skiing enthusiasts, and ideal if you like going right into some of the many marinas (Benalmádena, Puerto Banús) on the coast. Whether you prefer to go solo or on an organized excursion, you cannot fail to appreciate the beauty of dolphins swimming in their natural habitat.
Sports such as tennis, paddle tennis, polo (in Marbella and Sotogrande) and horse riding (Mijas-Costa Racetrack) also enjoy great popularity and prominence. Once again, the sun and the area’s pleasant temperatures favour these and any other outdoor sport, with modern facilities designed to cater for all of them. |
