BLUE FLAGS IN FUENGIROLA BEACHES

Fuengirola, only Spanish municipality with Blue Flags granted to all beaches
|
|
Fuengirola is the municipality in Andalusia with the largest number of Blue-Flag beaches (7), accounting for 33% of all the Blue Flags fluttering in Málaga Province (21).
For the second year in a row, Fuengirola leads the Blue-Fag beach ranking in Spain, as 100% of its beaches have been granted this eco-label endorsed by the World Tourism Organisation.
There are municipalities out of Andalusia boasting higher numbers of Blue Flags. However, none of them has more than 50% beaches showing the eco-label.
All of Fuengirola’s Blue-Flag beaches –Los Bloques-Las Gaviotas, Torreblanca, Carvajal, Santa Amalia, El Castillo, Fuengirola, and San Francisco– feature the necessary facilities and services for locals and visitors to enjoy themselves, with regard to surveillance, rescue, accessibility, sports, bio-health, and garbage collection, among other areas.
Other beaches that have been awarded Blue Flags in Málaga are Torrecilla, Burriana, Maro, and Playazo (Nerja); Benajarafe (Vélez-Málaga); Carvajal (Benalmádena); La Cala (Mijas); Artola-Cabopino, Venus-Bajadilla, Casablanca, and Guadalmina-San Pedro (Marbella); La Rada and El Cristo (Estepona); and, finally, Sabinillas (Manilva).
Thus, Málaga stands second in Andalusia in terms of the number of Blue Flags granted this year. With 21 of such eco-labels, it is behind Cádiz (24) but ahead of Almería (12) and Huelva (8).
As to marinas, those where Blue Flags will be flying in the wind this year are the same as in 2009: La Bajadilla in Marbella, Caleta de Vélez in Vélez-Málaga, the Estepona marina, and La Duquesa in Manilva.
